5 Delicious Smoothies You MUST Try!

Hey Y’alls! It feels like I’ve haven’t posted in a while annnnnd I blame grad school for my absence! LOL With all seriousness, I’m happy to be back and I can’t wait to share with you all of the exciting things I have in store for NaijaGalFitness!

So I’ve came up with (probably theee BEST) smoothie recipes that can aid to your weightless/overall diet! I absolutely love these recipes and I try to drink these smoothies at least once or twice a day. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

TURMERIC SMOOTHIE

  • 1 tea spoon of turmeric
  • Handful of frozen pineapples
  • 1 half banana slices
  • 1 cup of almond or coconut milk
  • ½ cup of orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds

BLEND, BLEND, BLEND, BLEND, and enjoy!

Initially, I had no IDEA how Turmeric taste so I was blindsided when I tried the smoothie for the first time. Turmeric is very spicy and can be overwhelming if you don’t use with caution. Luckily, I used 1 teaspoon and my smoothie was just fine.

Health Benefits: Turmeric contains curcumin, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This means, turmeric can help alleviate bloating!  Turmeric also comes in gel capsules and can be used to reduce pain from injuries.

GREEN SMOOTHIE

  • handful of kale
  • handful of chard
  • handful of spinach
  • ½ frozen pineapple
  • ½ cup of orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

BLEND, BLEND, BLEND, BLEND, and enjoy!

I use a “Power Green” mix (Chard, Kale, and Spinach) from Costco for only $4.79! (Amazing right?!) To preserve the greens, I pre-pack them with fruits into a food storage bag to prevent them from spoiling in the fridge. This also saves you A LOT of time whenever you want to make a smoothie.

Health Benefits:  My power green mix has so many health benefits it can probably take 10 blog posts to list them all. To avoid my hands from cramping, I will condense the list! Power greens are a great source of protein (perfect for post-workouts to replenish your muscles), they contain a lot of fiber and provides TONS of digestive enzymes too! Alongside the health benefits, chia seeds are high in Omega-3 fatty acids and contains more Omega 3s than SALMON!

I LOVE YOU BERRY MUCH

  • ½ cup frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup frozen strawberries (I prefer fresh)
  • ½ cup frozen blackberries
  • ½ frozen raspberries
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 cup “power green mix” (chard, kale, spinach)
  • 1 cup orange juice

BLEND, BLEND, BLEND, BLEND, and enjoy!

This is probably my favorite smoothie blend ever. I typically buy a frozen pack of mixed berries instead of individual bags (too expensive).

Health benefits: Berries are known to keep you mentally sharp (especially strawberries!), they can help manage your diabetes and last but not least, berries can BOOST your metabolism!

 TROPICAL BLEND

  • Small handful of frozen papaya chunks
  • ½ cup frozen mango slices
  • ½ cup frozen strawberries (I prefer fresh)
  • 1 half banana slices
  • 1 cup orange juice

BLEND, BLEND, BLEND, BLEND, and enjoy!

I normally drink this smoothie on warm days BUT it’s been raining cats and dogs in Northern California for the past few weeks! Luckily, its Spring, which means more warm weather soon *fingers crossed*!

Health benefits: Anything that has the word “tropical” usually means fresh and healthy…amirightttt? Right? Thought so! Papayas are rich with antioxidants, vitamin C, and has a luscious distinct flavor. One word I can use to describe the taste is “mild.” That’s why I suggest adding a small handful of frozen papaya because its mildness can carry your drink to WHOLE new level. By the way, I used an organic tropical frozen fruit mix that I got from Costco for $7.99! The mix already came with pre-sliced mangos, papaya, and strawberries.

AÇAÍ SMOOTHIE BOWL

  • 2 cups Açaíjuice
  • 1 Handful of kale
  • 1 handful of chard
  • 1 handful of spinach
  • 1 splash of orange juice
  • ½ cup slice strawberries
  • ½ cup of mango chunks

For a sorbet textured bowl use less Açaí juice but for a thinner texture use more Açaí juice and Orange juice. After you’ve blended the ingredients pour it into a bowl and top it with whatever you like.

Optional: You can add any topping i.e. shredded coconut, chopped almonds, granola, chia seeds, fresh fruit slices, etc. Be wild ladies and gentlemen. Be. WILD.

Health Benefits: Good news! You DON’T have to use frozen Açaí berries to create an Açaí bowl! Mind-blowing, I know! I found the Açaí juice at Costco for $7.99. The only downfall is, the juice spoils after 7 days of opening it. Bummer, I know. Anyhow, Açaí berries are packed with antioxidants, fiber, and heart-healthy fats. It is said that Açaí berries may have more antioxidants than any other commonly eaten berries such as cranberries, blueberries, and strawberries.
