Hey yalls!! I was inspired to create this post by Meet the Patronnes on YouTube (my favorite place for inspiration. CLICK their picture to access their YOUTUBE PAGE!) They created a video about women and hygiene and mannnn listen, it was the truth! I couldn’t stop applauding them for pointing out the importance of taking good care of yourself.
Ladies, we all get lazy. I get lazy. Michelle Obama and Beyoncé probably get really lazy too. Honestly, we can’t neglect taking care of ourselves. Especially our personal hygiene. Growing up with four older sisters, I quickly learned how to take care of my body and carry myself in a respectable manner. Despite growing up with exceptional role models, I still fell into the trap of dressing up for others. I thought that if dressed a certain way or sprayed a certain type of perfume people would like me. Unfortunately, people will ALWAYS have an opinion about you. Luckily, I came to a realization that you must do things for YOU and only YOU!
In this post, I will discuss ways I take care of myself AND easy tips + inexpensive ways you can too. Instead of focusing on boys or the next person, let’s start by bettering and helping ourselves first.
DRIED FOOT HEELS: We’ve ALL had those moments when we needed to get a pedicure or had ashy, dried, peeling heels. It’s happened to me and I’m sure it’s happened to you. No one is perfect. I normally go to a nail salon first when I have dried heels then I use a foot scrubber (you can purchase one for less than $2 bucks) to scrub the excess skin off. I noticed that I got ashy/dried heels by walking in sandals outside. No matter how much lotion I would add onto my heels I would ALWAYS come home with ashy heels! To cure this solution, wearing Vaseline or any other oil based products on your heels help. Also, carrying those products with you throughout the day can alleviate dryness.
TIP: Wear Vaseline or lotion on your feet then put on comfy socks before bed. Trust me, you will wake up with silky smooth feet and heels! Maintain those ashy heels ladies, you don’t wanna start a bush fire.
ASHY/DRIED SKIN: Moisturize your skin hunty! I think the key to moisturizers are the products you decide to use. I use Jergens, coco butter, or Vaseline to moisturize my skin. It leaves a lasting effect on my body and keeps my skin feeling nice and smooth. For my face, I use Clinque’s oil free lotion. You can order Clinque oil free lotion on their website or at any Macy’s store. I also recommend using lip moisturizers too.
TIP: If you want to get rid of dead skin on your lips, I usually brush my lips with a toothbrush then add a moisturizer on them in the morning or before bed. You can also get rid of dead skin while showering. You can use a wash cloth and wipe it gently on your lips to remove any dead skin. It sucks to have bumpy lips when you put lipstick or lip gloss on your lips. No more STRUGGLE LIPS or SKIN!!
MINTY BREATH: Ahhh yes! Minty Breath. Nearly impossible to achieve for many. Let’s face it, we are human. We will smell, everywhere. If you’re worried about your breath, try carrying a pack of gum or mint around with you. Make sure you drink lots of water too! Usually, bad breath is caused by dehydration, so drink up! Also, it is important to brush your tongue in the morning and/or after a meal. I bought a tongue scraper from Target for about $1.50-2.00. Tongue scrapers are seriously the best thing ever! It cleans out any yucky residue from a previous meal or drink off your tongue. Lastly flossing, is another awesome method too, try it if you haven’t.
TIP: If the smell persists after using all of the tips above, consult with a dentist for assistance.
WEAVES: Ladies, if you are wearing a weave or hair clips, WASH THEM! There’s no need to have foul smelling hair while walking around. I work-out nearly every day and by the end of the week my hair can attract flies LOL I wash my hair every chance I get to keep my hair clean and smelling refreshed.
TIP: If you are afraid of drying your weaves try co-washing (CONDITIONER ONLY-WASHING) which is to only use conditioner to moisturize your scalp and hair.
SKIN: I use Clinque 3-step process for my skin because I have really oily skin. Since I have oily skin, I tend to have breakouts if I don’t control the oils. LADIES LISTEN, OILY SKIN CAN KEEP YOU LOOKING YOUNG!! The only way to combat it is by using Clinque’s 3 step process. Clinque is on the pricer end, it’s about $60-70 bucks but, you can always use products similar to that brand. Also, I use the products my doctor gives me too. Which usually always help if you have medical insurance to visit a dermatologist. Most of the time, acne is hereditary, PMS, STRESS, or specific foods. There are a gazillion options to combat and/or maintain your acne.
TIP: Research ingredients found in expensive facial products and find them in inexpensive items. For example, glyoxylic acid is found in some inexpensive facial cleansers like Cetaphil and Neutrogena!
